New treatment option for recurrent non-infectious uveitis

Based on a new clinical trial, the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) has recommended the use of a new treatment, the fluocinolone acetonide implant, which could lead to fewer hospital visits.

The clinical trial result suggests that fluocinolone acetonide implant may be able to improve clearness of vision for people with uveitis and help prevent the disease from returning.

Around 8,500 people in England have non-infectious uveitis, although the number eligible for the new treatment would be far fewer.
