Scottish Government confirms GOS fee increase

The Scottish Government has confirmed that it will increase GOS eye examination fees by 3% and apply it to all care undertaken on or after April 2021.

The announcement comes after Optometry Scotland (OS) and Scottish ministers reached an agreement to increase funding for: 

• Primary eye examination for patients under 60 years to £38.11
• Primary eye examination for patients 60 years and over to £41.20 (no digital photograph) and £46.35 (with a digital photograph)
• Standard supplementary eye examination to £25.24
• Enhanced supplementary eye examination to £39.14
• Additional domiciliary fees to £38.69, with £9.68 paid for the third and subsequent patients.

Kathryn Trimmer, FODO Scotland Chair and FODO representative on OS, said: "This is welcome news. It is a good outcome - the first correction to fees in many years helps practices confronted by inflationary pressures.

The Government and OS continue to work together in the best interests of patients to secure sustainable models of primary eye care for all."
