Obituary John Baker FBDO
We are sad to report the passing this week of John Baker.
John, an honorary member of FODO, helped to influence and improve the sector through his lifelong commitment to better eye health.
FODO director of regulatory affairs Alan Tinger said: "John's passing is a very sad loss. John was a strong supporter of FODO, having been a Council member since 1987 and then a member of the FODO Board from 1991 to 2004 and a stalwart of the entire sector. At the 2004 AGM, John was elected as an honorary member of FODO in appreciation of his long and dedicated service."
FODO group director David Hewlett added: "Brimming with bonhomie, knowledge and experience, John brought enthusiasm and a collaborative approach to all issues. Many of us were privileged to count John and Catherine as friends and colleagues. John will be sadly missed by everyone at FODO and across the sector."
The Worshipful Company of Spectacle Makers also paid tribute. It said: "John was always passionate about his profession, advocating for continuing education and professional development, and proper protection of dispensing for vulnerable groups like children. He always looked forward and outwards, building and using connections wherever he could. He was particularly proud of the expansion of qualifications and membership from the UK into other parts of the world."
The Livery Company continued: "He will be much missed by all who benefited from his support, guidance and wise judgement."
